Zsófia Kókai graduated from the University of Szeged in 2014 with a BA in Romance Studies, and a specialization in Italian and Portuguese Studies. She then attended the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and obtained an MA in Contemporary Art Theory and Curatorial Studies in 2017. Subsequently, between 2017 and 2021, she worked as communications manager, and then curator, at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
Since 2021, she has worked for the Artpool Art Research Center as an assistant museologist, participating in and working on international collaborations, curatorial projects, conferences, events, and communications of Artpool and the Central European Research Institute for Art History (KEMKI).
Since 2016, she has been a member of MŰTŐ, an artist-run gallery and art collective. From 2020–2021, she was project manager and curator of the Alterum - artist-run network in the CEE region, financed by the Visegrad Fund.
In 2022, she curated Lili Agg and Veronika Romhány’s exhibition entitled Unfold in Unknown Waters, held at the U10 Gallery in Belgrade.
Her most recent curated solo exhibition was Ivor Almásy: Growth Spurt, at the Tér-kép Gallery in 2023.
