György Cséka

György Cséka graduated from the Hungarian Language and Literature program of Uzhhorod National University in 1994, and from the Aesthetics Program in the Faculty of Humanities at Eötvös Lóránd University (ELTE) in 1999, where he also pursued his doctoral studies from 2000 to 2003. In 2012, he earned a BA degree in Library and Information Science at ELTE’s Faculty of Humanities.

From 2000 to 2019, he worked at the University Library of Eötvös Lóránd University as an information and research librarian, and then as head of department. Between 2009 and 2012, he was editor of the online publication Fotopost. From 2009 to 2010, he was head of the Studio of Young Photographers.

From 2009 to 2011, he taught the theory and history of photography at Fotografus Foundation School of Photography. In 2017, he taught a course on the theory and history of photography at the Doctoral School of the University of Theatre and Film Arts. From 2019 to 2020, he was managing editor at the online photography magazine www.punkt.hu. His research interests include contemporary photography and art theory. He has been working at KEMKI since 2020.

Since 2009, he has published in A mű, Artmagazin, Artportal, Fotóművészet, Műértő, Műút, PUNKT and Új Művészet, among others. He is editor of the volumes FFS Anthology 1985-2009 (2010) and Barnabás Neogrády-Kiss's Solitude (2021).

His curatorial works include: Gabriella Cseh: Nagare/Flow (2019, Liget Gallery), Barnabás Neogrády-Kiss: B (2019, Lollipop Factory), Plan D – Exhibition of the Studio of Young Photographers (2019, ICA-D Institute of Contemporary Art – Dunaújváros), Zsuzsi Simon: Alexandru (2022, ISBN books+gallery), Barnabás Neogrády-Kiss: Eye Game (2022, Inda Gallery).
