On 4 June 2026, the Research Department of the Central European Research Institute for Art History (KEMKI) will organise a commemorative conference dedicated to the intellectual legacy of Péter György (1954–2025). A seminal contributor to art theory and cultural studies in Hungary, György's work was characterised by his restless curiosity. As a scholar, mentor, critic, and public intellectual, he consistently bridged local contexts and international discourses – a mission that closely aligns with KEMKI’s own objectives.
The event, held in Hungarian, will feature thirteen papers exploring the art-historical consequences of significant topics he researched, including the delayed reception of the avant-garde, the post-socialist transition, the “digital turn”, progressive museology, and memory politics.
