TÓTalJOY 2021 Award Ceremony / Tamás Kaszás

Endre Tót and the Central European Research Institute for Art History (KEMKI) – Artpool Art Research Center announced a new open call for projects based on artistic research in July this year and received 27 project proposals.

The founder and supporter of the prize is the Hungarian artist Endre Tót. It has long been his wish to establish a form of endowment that can endorse artists active within the art scene in Hungary. 

The TÓTalJOY Prize aims to provide an opportunity for contemporary artists whose artistic practice is research-oriented to receive financial and institutional support.

The six-member jury, consisting of international and local professionals, chose Tamás Kaszás’s project, Lost Wisdom, as this year’s winner.

According to the unanimous opinion of the board, Tamás Kaszás’s project Lost Wisdom connects organically to the experimental spirit of Artpool due to his background of lived intellectual experiences. The proposal employs collaborative methods to go beyond the classical functions and theories of the archive and to intervene in the archive’s functioning with the dynamic toolkit of contemporary art. 

Katarina Šević’s project plan Storm in the Archive also received a special mention by the jury for its high quality.

The award ceremony will be held in the presence of Endre Tót and will be accompanied by a selection of his works from Artpool’s collection. At the award ceremony Tamás Kaszás will present his project-plan to be realized the following year.
